Introducing the Peek
Note that I HAVE NOT MADE UP MY MIND, I’M STILL PONDERING ABOUT THIS. Switch from Verizon to AT&T?
Coverage & rates are about equal - AT&T has rollover minutes, and POSSIBLY free MMS (heard from ComputerTV’s Tech Update).
iPod Touch 1st Gen won’t support accessibility, GPS, compass, or Skype - the most important of these are Skype & accessibility.
I find myself carrying two devices (my LG Voyager and my iPod). I’ve been on the look out for a smartphone for some time. The iPhone has two key advantages over all other smart phones. One: Accessibility out of the box for $299 on contract vs. $600, once brought up to speed, for a compatible Windows Mobile, Symbian, or Blackberry device. Two: Ease of transfer. WIth the exception of getting the contacts off of my LG Voyager, getting all my music, calendars, contacts, etc., synced to my MacBook will be a snap. I doubt this is possible on the Voyager, as their software is Windows centric, where as the iPhone plays nice in both the Mac and Windows world.
GSM has one key advantage over CDMA: Versatility. If you don’t like a carrier’s phone, you can just buy one unlocked. For this reason, and the fact that GSM is in use all over the world, accessible worlds were born on the GSM side of the ring. You cannot activate an unlocked phone on CDMA unless you buy from Sprint, and activate it on Verizon. However, if you do that then you’d have a phone wearing the Sprint badge on the Verizon network, which I think is a little out of place. Also, when you get a new phone, you can activate it yourself. How? Simply swap the SIM card from one phone to another. This is a lot faster than waiting for a store ociate to program your phone, which has to be done with CDMA, thanks to the lack of a SIM card.
Verizon’s practices. Things like rejecting the iPhone because they were not able to control every last drop of Apple’s product, pretty much rendering it the Verizon iPhone. Forcing you to take a data plan before you even walk out the door with the phone, forcing you to use that plan one hundred percent of the time because only some phones have WiFi. Interestingly enough, Blackberry Storm is not one of them that has WiFi. Thus if you are a heavy mobile net user, much like I have become since the acquisition of my iPod Touch, you will be forced to pay the unlimited plan’s rate. On GSM, you could go with a cheaper plan because you have WiFi to fall back on with most devices).
As noted earlier, GSM is in use all over the world. Also, it is really picking up here in the states. Lately, more new phones have been dropped on AT&T’s front doorstep than Verizon’s. Also GSM phones come out sooner than their CDMA equivelants. Not sure why.

PDA-MINI-SERIES-009
There are many mini-iPhone mobile phones out there. Some are good. Most of them, not so good. Some have the JAVA APPS icon but doesn't really have JAVA functions to begin with. What a rip-off! After going through so many models, this particular model seems to be the best so far. It's not just reliable & has all the cool multimedia functions, it's the only mini-iPhone model which has TV function.
